In loving memory of Rene Vargas

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we remember the life of Rene Vargas, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal hit-and-run crash on the night of June 14, 2026, in Lafayette Parish.

Rene, only 32 years old, was more than just a name in a news release—he was a son, a friend, a loved one, and a person whose presence brought meaning to those around him. His sudden passing has left a painful void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.

According to the Louisiana State Police Troop I, the crash occurred on Louisiana Interstate 49 Service Road near Turf Lane, where Rene was traveling south on an electric scooter before being struck from behind by a 2014 Ford Focus. In a heartbreaking turn of events, the driver fled the scene, leaving Rene critically injured. Sadly, he succumbed to those injuries at the scene.

No family should ever have to endure the pain of losing a loved one in such a tragic and senseless way. Rene’s passing is a painful reminder of how fragile life can be and how one reckless decision can forever alter the lives of so many.

As the investigation continues and justice begins to unfold, we honor Rene’s memory by remembering the life he lived, the people he touched, and the moments he shared. Though his journey ended too soon, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
